November 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you had a lovely Halloween break.

Parent Teacher Meetings: Due to the high Covid numbers Parent Teacher Meetings will be held via phone during the week of the 22nd to 26th  November.  Your child’s teacher will be in touch with you to arrange a suitable time.

Punctuality: We would appeal to parents to ensure that their child arrives to school on time (Infants to 2nd start at 8.30am, 3rd to 6th start at 8.40am). Punctuality ensures the children don’t miss any part of their school day.

Maths Week:  Huge thanks to Ms. Gildea for organising our Maths Week which ran from the 18th - 22nd October in St. Columba's. Students took part in a variety of fun activities throughout the week; quizzes, trails, art, games and the Maths Fair. Two competitions were also held - The 'Maths Eyes' competition, and a '3D Halloween Art' competition organised by the student council. The effort of the pupils was outstanding and  their enthusiastic participation in these activities ensured a hugely successful Maths Week. Thank you to all students, parents and teachers for embracing and promoting the importance of Maths in our everyday lives. Please check out the school website to view the video of the work completed during Maths Week.

Fun Fitness: Our fun fitness classes begin this week. It is a fun inclusive exercise programme suitable to all ages and abilities. Boxercise is the first part of our programme and will run for 5 weeks.

Shoe Box Appeal: Children from 2nd to 6th class are welcome to participate in the Shoe Box appeal. Shoeboxes can be filled with thoughtful gifts which are given to children affected by poverty in Africa or Eastern Europe. Please return your filled shoebox by 15th November with a €4 donation to cover the delivery costs. More information about the Shoe Box appeal can be found at www.teamhope.ie.

School Enrolment for September 2022: We are now accepting applications for admission to our Junior Infant classes for the school year 2022/2023.  All information can be found on our website www.ionaroadschool.ie or contact the office on 086 7001901.

Important Covid-19 Information:

If your child has any symptoms of COVID-19 (coronavirus), keep them at home and get a COVID-19 PCR test. You may need to isolate them from other people. It will depend on their symptoms.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are:

  • dry cough

  • fever

  • fatigue (tiredness)

Less common symptoms include:

  • blocked nose

  • sore throat

  • loss of smell or taste

  • conjunctivitis (red or pink eye)

  • headache

  • muscle or joint pain (aches and pains)

  • skin rash

  • nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea

  • chills or dizziness

Your child may not have all of these symptoms. Symptoms may vary for different age groups or variants of the virus. It can take up to 14 days for symptoms to show. Even if your child's symptoms are very mild, keep them at home for 48 hours and phone your GP for advice.  We would appreciate if you could let the school know as soon as possible if your child tests positive for Covid-19.

Our priority is to ensure the health and safety of the whole school community.

Kind regards,

Criona Daly.
