Confirmation and Communion:
Fr. Richard has asked that any pupil wishing to make their Confirmation or Communion register with the parish office. You can register on their website www.ionaroadparish.ie or contact Sheila on 01 8308257.
The Enrolment Ceremony for Confirmation is this Saturday evening 11th December at 6pm. We have been asked to participate via the webcam because of the high Covid numbers.
The Communion Enrolment mass will be on Saturday 22nd January at 6pm accessible via webcam. Like last year our parish preparation will take the form of a monthly (webcam) mass and there will be a series of zoom sessions led by parish/parent volunteers.
Our Lotto Fundraiser:
A reminder that we are running a Lotto fundraiser which helps us to raise money for much needed support for the school. You can join our Lotto fundraiser by simply visiting our website www.ionaroadschool.ie and clicking on the link. You can purchase one line for €2 and three lines for €5.
Everyone who has a ticket in the weekly fundraiser lotto on Thursday 16th December is in with a chance to win the €150 Christmas cash prize kindly supplied by our Parents’ Association and our School Jackpot which stands presently at €1,325.
You will also be included in a national Christmas fundraiser draw which has some fantastic prizes : a super family break for 3 days at Center Parcs Holiday Village, Longford Forest and 3 PlayStation 5’s (one per winner).
Huge congratulations to Ms. Barrett’s and Ms. Eakin’s 6th classes for completing their first marathon! The girls and their teachers took part in a running programme which saw them participate in running sessions every week, working up to 26.2 miles in total. We are very proud of their achievement.
We are holding cyber safety webinars this week and next for all classes from 3rd to 6th in order to help the children to navigate the online world in a safer more responsible way.
The 6th classes will take part in cycle safety training in January with the Cycle Safety School. The course consists of seven sessions and will commence in late January.
The Junior Infants to second class have just begun basketball classes with Praha. They will run for 6 weeks. The senior classes will get an opportunity to take part in basketball classes in the New Year.
Fun Fitness will return to St. Columba’s in January. This time the children will be taking part in Gymnastics for 4 weeks.
Ms. Barrett’s 6th class are hosting our Advent service via Zoom for the other classes in the school.
Christmas annuals are on sale from the school office. Every child received an order form.
All the children will be able to view the Helix Panto Red Riding Hood online in school as part of our Christmas celebrations.
The children can wear their Christmas jumpers (if they would like to) to school on Tuesday and Wednesday, 21st and 22nd December. We are hopeful that a very special visitor will call to school that week!
Junior and Senior Infants have been working hard to prepare some Christmas songs that they will share with their parents via an online link.
The school will close on Friday 17th December at 11.30am for Junior Infants- 2nd class and at 11.40am for 3rd -6th class as the staff will be completing inservice training for the new primary curriculum.
The school will close on Wednesday, 22nd December at 11.30am for Junior Infants – 2nd class and at 11.40am for 3rd-6th class at 11.40am. we will reopen on Thursday 6th January.
